Ruby Topaz

A relatively small bird. The male is dark brown with a bright red crown, yellow breast and orange tail. The female is plain gray-green with a whitish underside.

 

Tufted Coquette

A very small bird. The male is olive green with a pointed orange crest, long orange black-tipped plumes around the neck and a white rump. The female carries no crest or plumes but has an orange face and breast.

 

Copper-rumped Hummingbird

The male is an iridescent green-gold bird with a reddish-bronze back and rump and a dark blue tail. The female is similar although slightly duller with a bit of white on the throat feathers.

 

White-chested Emerald

This bird has white underparts, a coppery rump and tail with green spotting on the throat, breast and flanks .

 

White-necked Jacobin

The male vibrant blue head and breast, with green upper sides and a white belly and tail. The female is green above and white below with a gray spotted breast

 

Black-throated Mango

The male is blue and green with black underparts and a purple tail.

 

Green-throated Mango

The male has a green throat, black belly and breast with a purple and magenta tail. The female has a black and green midline stripe with white borders.

 

Long-billed Starthroat

This bird is characterised by its long bill. The male carries a blue crown, red throat and has a silvery overall colour. The female is very similar except without the blue crown and a slightly duller throat.

 

Green Hermit

This is a dark blue-green bird with a blue base and a long downcurved bill. Females have pale facial stripes while males have dark faces.

 

Rufous-breasted Hermit

The male and female are dark green above and a reddish brown underneath with a dark crown and face. The female has a lighter throat and breast.

 

Little Hermit

This is one of the smallest hummingbirds. The male is dark green above and orange below with a dark crown and face sporting a brown tail with white tips. The female is the same but with a lighter throat.

 

Brown Violeteer

This bird is a dark brownish gray with a blue-green throat and violet coverts and neck sides.

 

Amethyst Woodstar

The male has dark green-bronze underparts and a white patch on each flank. He also has an amethyst throat. The tail is dark purple with white tips. The female bears a white throat mottled with green and a white line running from the eye down to the white collar. She also has orange underparts

 

Blue-chinned Sapphire

This small primarily green hummingbird has a darker tail and a blue throat. The female has a green underside with some white.

 

White-tailed Sabrewing

The male of this large green species has a purple throat and the dark green tail has white tips. The female is similar except for its gray-green underside .

 

Rufous-shafted Woodstar

The male is dark green with a violet throat and white breast band and carries a long forked tail. The female is green above and red below.

 

Blue-tailed Emerald

This hummingbird is greenish bronze above with green underparts. The female is paler green above and gray underneath.

 

White-tailed Goldenthroat

The male is olive green above and yellowish green below with white tail sides. The female is paler.
